Recently we launched Rita Mulcahy’s latest edition of the PMP Exam Prep book. We’ve made significant improvements to accurately align with the PMP exam and current project management best practices to ensure students pass the PMP exam their first try. In the past, we created new editions of the book when PMI launched an exam change. Today, PMI has changed the way it modifies the exam. Instead of changing the exam every five or so years, PMI has opted to continuously improve the PMP exam content.

So how does Rita’s PMP Exam Prep 11th edition book differ from the 10th edition?  Let’s take a closer look.

PMP Exam Prep Latest Edition

  1. The Most Current Exam Content
  2. Understanding Exam Concepts
  3. New Interactive PMP-Style Quizzes
  4. Ultimate One Source Prep Book

Rita Mulcahy’s Latest Edition: The Most Current Exam Content

Rita Mulcahy’s latest edition is structured to align with to the Examination Content Outline (ECO). Previous editions of this book were built around knowledge areas. In version 11, sections directly relate to the ECO’s three domains: People (Domain I), Process (Domain II), and Business Environment (Domain III).  We ask students to read and understand the ECO because it covers the domains and introduces agile approaches to project management and the PMP exam.

PMI has identified new supporting references for the exam including the PMBOK Guide 7, and the Process Groups: A Practice Guide , which we explain in more detail.  We diligently analyzed these materials for the 11th edition and have included the important exam information from them in our book. For example, we’ve included nuances in language, more content on tailoring and value delivery, and new models and methods.

Our 10th  edition PMP Exam Prep study materials are still a valid, proven way to pass the PMP exam in 2023. We encourage students and customers who have begun study with 10th edition materials to continue to use them.  As we said, Version 10 is more heavily weighted to predictive project management and knowledge areas. Unlike version 11, which includes essential agile content, the 10th edition encourages you to read specific chapters from our Agile Fundamentals book, depending on your knowledge and familiarity with agile project management. If you prefer the enhancements and want to upgrade to the 11th  edition, please find the details here.

Rita Mulcahy’s 11th Edition: Understanding Exam Concepts

In version 11, we’ve expanded our use of realistic case studies so you can answer situational exam questions confidently.  This is an important distinction in our exam prep because you cannot just memorize the information and expect to do well on the exam. You must understand the concepts so you can align your real-world experience with knowledge of the exam concepts.

We introduce a single case study that is carried throughout the book. The idea is to build upon the case study to teach concepts presented in each chapter.  This is a great way to interact and with exam concepts, apply them to a project to solidify your understand and retain that knowledge throughout the 4-hour exam.

The 11th edition includes other enhancements including:

Quicktests: Lists key topics at the start of each chapter are tools to help you review and test your knowledge of the most essential concepts.

Free Online Resource Page: RMC’s free RMC Resources site is a robust exam prep tool with additional content to help students with their studies.  We added more content that allows you to go deeper into key topics. Find new study tools, review materials and exercises.

Rita’s All New Agile Process Chart Game: This tool helps you comprehend and apply an agile approach to project management.  The game shows you how an agile project is managed across 5 process groups and their associated activities. Playing the game will help you prepare for agile content on the exam.

What hasn’t changed is the conversational tone of the book.  It’s important that you engage in the material and one of the best ways to do so it to make the content easy to read, comprehend and digest.  This is a founding principle of Rita’s PMP Exam prep book, and many try to replicate this approach.

Rita Mulcahy’s Latest Edition: New Interactive PMP-Style Quizzes

Keep in mind that you cannot simply practice answering questions to prepare for the exam. Questions on the exam are situational.  To answer them you must apply your experience and knowledge to the given scenario rather than a textbook response.

RMC’s interactive chapter quizzes help you assess your knowledge and become familiar with the type of questions on the exam.  In addition to the questions, you’ll get full explanations for the correct answer, instant scoring on your quiz and a downloadable document with a log of what you got wrong.

You gain access to this tool using a code that is included in the book. You can expect to encounter questions in 5 different formats including:

  1. Multiple choice answer: Multiple choice requires a single answer from several choices.
  2. Multiple response: Questions list several choices that could have two or three correct answers.
  3. Hot spot questions: Graphic where you click on a hot spot containing the correct answer.
  4. Matching questions: You will have two columns of concepts to match.
  5. Limited fill- in-the-blank: These types of questions will ask that you type the answer (represented by a blank space in the question) in a box.

Continue to test what you’ve learned using a more robust PMP exam simulation test experience.
