PMP® CERTIFICATION

If you're a project manager with experience and you're ready to take your career to the next level, a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification can help get you there by opening doors to myriad opportunities for growth.

Why Go Through the Process of Getting PMP Certified?

Trust us when we say it's worth your time and effort to become a certified PMP. Here are just a few of the main reasons why:

  1. Your PMP certification will be recognized worldwide.
  2. With this credential, which is in high demand by employers, you'll prove that you have what it takes to work for a wide range of businesses.
  3. You'll be prepared to make your next big move in just about any industry and any location, giving you more freedom to do what you've dreamed of as a project manager.
  4. You'll be able to earn a higher salary (around 23% more money than project managers who aren't certified!).

How do you get this sought-after PMP credential? Well, you need to pass an exam. But, before you can even take the test, you need to prove that you have the right education and experience under your belt.

Meeting the PMP Exam Requirements

Before you'll be eligible to take the PMP certification exam, you do need to satisfy specific requirements.

There are two ways to qualify to take the PMP examination and become certified. Keep in mind that, no matter what, you also have to agree to sign, and abide by, the Project Management Professional Code of Professional Conduct in order to qualify.

One option is to show that you have:

  • A four-year degree, such as a bachelor's degree
  • 35 hours of project management education
  • 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects

Note: The number of hours on the Experience Verification Form(s) must total at least 4,500 hours, and the project dates must indicate that you have at least three years of project management experience within the eight-year period prior to the application. You must indicate at least 36 unique (non-overlapping) months of project management experience on the Experience Verification Form(s) to satisfy the three-year requirement.

Alternatively, you can show that you have:

  • A secondary degree, such as an associate's degree or a high school diploma
  • 35 hours of project management education
  • 7,500 hours of leading and directing projects

Note: The number of hours on the Experience Verification Form(s) must total at least 7,500 hours, and the project dates must indicate that you have at least five years of project management experience within the eight-year period prior to the application. You must indicate at least 60 unique (non-overlapping) months of project management experience on the Experience Verification Form(s) to satisfy the five-year requirement.

*Don't Meet the Prerequisites for PMP? Consider becoming a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® first.
